Exactly one year ago I shared on Facebook that GeekTyrant was reporting that Marvel regained the rights to Ghost Rider. Robbie Reyes confirmed that when he showed up on Agents of SHIELD this past season. Johnny Blaze actually made a cameo in Agents of SHIELD as the person who rescued Robbie Reyes, but also cursed him with the Rider’s Powers. Previously Nicholas Cage played the role of of Johnny Blaze in 2007. However, that movie wasn’t well received and has not been “connected” to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And there isn’t like there is precedent for recasts as Bruce Banner has been played by three different actors since he joined the MCU.
And maybe this isn’t even a deal where we get Johnny Blaze in a Summer Blockbuster, but maybe as a Netflix Series... not unlike the Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc. I do not pretend to know what the end game is for Marvel and Netflix, but it seems to me that if there isn’t going to be interaction between the films and ABC Studios, perhaps we can expand on the shared universe (not unlike DC’s “Arrow-Verse.”)
And let’s face it, this would be perfect casting. Darryl has long been the BEST part or the Walking Dead. He could bring that same energy to a Netflix Series. And eventually the Defenders Story Arc is going to come to an end.
What do you think?
